Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar This name evokes a bit of mystery, especially for those that haven't exactly read the books. For all the newbies that know little of the lore of Arda, let me enlighten you.

Angmar is a land in the northern part of the Hithaeglir (Misty Mountains). It was ruled by a King of Men that was seduced by the promises of power and wealth beyond his imagination. So he fell to the will of Sauron, and became to the Dark One, as Sauron had once been to Morgoth. He was soon groomed in the ways of sorcery and was second in power only to Sauron himself.

This King of Men soon became known as the Witch-king, Lord of the Úlairi more commonly known as the Nazgûl or Ringwraiths. Nine Kings of Men that were enslaved by the power of Sauron. In the year 1974 of the Third Age, the Witch-king made war against the Dúnedain that lived in Eymn Uial, known as Lake Evendim and the North Downs in Fornost. He and his army were able to defeat the Northern Kingdom, and captured the Dúnedain major city of Fornost Erain. For one year, the Witch-king was not only Lord of Angmar, but of Fornost as well.

That was until a compliment of Elves and Men led by Glorfindel and Eärnur, King of Gondor defeated the Witch-king in the valley of Lake Evendim, sending him fleeing all the way back to Mordor and his master, Lord Sauron's domain. Now what does this little history lesson have to do with the game’s name--I don't really know. Why did the devs at Turbine decided to give the game this subtitle, I guess time will tell, but I do suspect this.

Maybe it has to do with the regions that will be explorable for initial release, which are Eriador and Fornost from the Grey Havens all the way to Moria. Regardless of the reasons...that subtitle has nothing to do directly with the timeline of the Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit...it sounds like a nice title for a movie sequel though.
